  1. Hello,

Thank you for envy. It has helped me on a computer where it seems that the Dapper nvidia driver refuse to work (don’t know why).
With envy, it was a breeze : just run envy and it works.

But, as this computer was installed for non techies persons, I ran into a problem : each time they upgrade the computer (like I told them to do, by clicking on the icon) and that the kernel is upgraded, X is broken. For someone like me, it’s very easy to solve : just run envy again in a console. But not easy for those people.

So I suggest the following improvement : envy must be launched at start. If envy detect that it has installed the driver and that this driver is not loaded, then run itself in a non-interactive mode and reinstall the driver again (might require downloading kernel headers). If envy detect that a driver is already loaded or that envy is not to be used (envy was never used or last time it was used was to uninstall a driver), then do nothing.

I think that it can really help to use envy in production.

  2. Ploum:
thanks for your suggestion. I’ll think about it.

However I think that new Xorg (7.2 ?) will avoid crashes when the kernel is updated.

  3. Hello,
I got this great script Envy, but it’s compatibile only with Drapper and Edgy. Do You have plans about Envy on Fiesty Fawn operating system?
Envy is incompatibile with dewelopers version of Fiesty. Bad luck for us, FF users.
All of us waiting for it. Can You put (maybe unstable) new version of Envy on Your site?

  4. Hi, thanks for the great script. It worked for me in the past but with Edgy it doesn’t seem to work (for me).
Everytime the installer gets to the downloading of the nvidia-driver part it just can’t get it and stops.
What am I doing wrong ?

  5. Fiesty:
you’ll see a version of Envy for Feisty ASAP 😉

    frag^d:
I need you to provide me with a few details:
    1) your graphic card model
    2) what happens exactly (does an error show up?) ?
    3) do you use the latest release of Envy i.e. 0.8.1-0ubuntu6 ?

  6. Geforce 6600 (maby gt maby not)
I’m on the latest Edgy (general)

But the problem is this (where the installert stops)

    Download of driver in progress
    resolving us.download.nvidia.com … /*(waiting)*/ … failed connection timed out
    md5new:
    md5sumold: /*(lots of numbers)*/
    md5Error ! Operation aborted

Thats it.. 😉 and i had it with the last envy aswell (_4 or so it was)

Thanks for help, and sorry that I post here
